Before You Go — General Checklist

  • Download AllTrails and save your intended walk offline before leaving town (data signal unreliable in national parks)
  • Check Parks Victoria, NSW National Parks, or the relevant state parks website for any current track closures
  • Carry 1 litre of water per hour of walking in summer, 500ml per hour in cooler months
  • Tell someone your planned route and expected return time before harder walks
  • Wear proper trail shoes — running shoes handle most of these walks; hiking boots only needed for Bluff Knoll, Cathedral Ranges and the more exposed Tasmania walks
  • Start before 8am on summer days — midday heat on exposed ridges is dangerous
