Quick Verdict: November and January–February are the cheapest months to fly Delhi to Europe — economy returns from ₹31,000. Frankfurt (FRA) and Amsterdam (AMS) are the budget gateways; London (LHR) always costs more. Turkish Airlines and Qatar Airways consistently undercut Air India on one-stop routes by ₹5,000–₹15,000.
Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International (DEL) has direct and one-stop connections to every major European hub. The same DEL–London route ranges from ₹38,000 in January to ₹1,00,000+ over Christmas. Understanding when to fly and which airline to book is the difference between an affordable Europe trip and an overpriced one.

Cheapest Months to Fly DEL → Europe
January–February is the single best window. European cities are quiet, hotels are cheaper, and airlines discount heavily to fill seats. Expect returns to Frankfurt or Amsterdam from ₹31,000–₹45,000 if you book 6–10 weeks out. London hovers higher at ₹38,000–₹52,000 even then.
November is the other sweet spot. Post-October half-term, pre-Christmas: demand drops for two to three weeks and fares follow. Paris and Amsterdam deals regularly appear below ₹37,000 return during the first three weeks of November.
Avoid: June through August (European summer, peak Indian school holiday overlap — fares spike across the board) and December 15–January 5 (Christmas-New Year premium adds ₹25,000–₹40,000 per ticket compared to November).
Which Airline Gets You There Cheapest
Turkish Airlines (via Istanbul): Consistently the most competitive on DEL–Western Europe. The IST layover runs 2–4 hours each way; total journey time is 11–14 hours — about the same as a “direct” Air India sector when you account for check-in and boarding. Fares to Paris and Madrid regularly run ₹6,000–₹12,000 cheaper than Air India direct.
Qatar Airways (via Doha): Strong on DEL–LHR and DEL–CDG. Doha layovers are typically short (90 min to 3 hours). Fares track 5–10% below Air India on average.
Emirates (via Dubai): Good for Southern Europe (Rome, Barcelona). The DXB layover can be long (4–6 hours outbound) — factor that into total travel time.
Air India direct: Pay a premium of ₹5,000–₹15,000 for the non-stop convenience. Worth it for London and Frankfurt if your time is tight. Air India’s DEL–LHR and DEL–CDG depart 5–6 days a week.
KLM / Lufthansa: European carriers operating DEL routes. Fares are competitive in their respective hubs (AMS, FRA). Often the cheapest option if Amsterdam or Frankfurt is your actual destination rather than a transit point.
3 Rules for Booking Cheap DEL–Europe Fares
1. Book 6–10 weeks out for off-peak travel; 3–4 months out for summer.
European routes behave differently from short-haul Asia routes. Summer capacity is tight — booking in March for July travel gives you better selection, even if not always the absolute lowest fare. For November or January travel, the 6–10 week window is the sweet spot.
2. Price in INR, not the airline’s quote currency.
Lufthansa quotes in EUR, KLM in EUR, and Emirates in AED. Convert to INR before comparing. A fare that looks cheaper in EUR can cost more once you factor in your bank’s exchange markup. Use the forex calculator to standardise.
3. Check if you need a Schengen visa.
A valid Schengen visa lets you enter 27 European countries on one document — essential for most Indian passport holders. Factor the visa fee (€80 / ₹7,200) and 10–15 working day processing time into your planning. Full document checklist is in the Schengen visa guide.
Flight Delay Compensation on European Routes
If your flight lands 3+ hours late and was operated by an EU-based airline (Lufthansa, KLM, Air France) or departed from an EU airport, you may be entitled to compensation of up to €600 (≈ ₹55,000) under EU Regulation 261/2004. This applies to Indian travellers — your passport doesn’t affect eligibility. Air India and Turkish Airlines flights are not covered unless they depart from an EU airport. Keep your boarding pass and document the delay time.
